When you choose to train martial arts at an academy, you get structure, guidance, and support. At most academies, you typically will find a few training options. These options include the choice of attending either group classes, private training, or both.
There are benefits to group martial arts training that differ from private training sessions. Let’s take a closer look at each option to help you figure out which is the right fit for you:
Group Martial Arts Classes
Training in a group allows you to train with a variety of experience and fitness levels. Once you’ve identified your strengths and weaknesses, you can work on both with different training partners. In some situations, you may know more than your opponent or vice versa. When you train with a variety of partners, you’re always creating new and unique learning opportunities.
In every class you attend, keep your personal goals in mind. At the same time, take any opportunity to share what you have learned with others.
Private Martial Arts Training
In a private training session, your instructor designs the entire session around you. This means they will take into account your current skill level, fitness, and martial arts goals. To get the most out of your time, make sure you share these goals with your instructor.
Talk to your instructor about what you want to gain from private training. Perhaps you have hit a training plateau and are now struggling to get beyond it? Or maybe you have a specific skill or technique that you’re stuck on or not grasping? It’s up to you to take a close look at your training and goals and then figure out the best way to find success.
