It’s very likely that your current martial arts goals are different from what you had planned at the beginning of the year. And although you may not train or compete as you had intended, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up your goals altogether.
Whether you’ve made some changes to your goals or not, here are a few tips to help you reach your martial arts goals:
1. Make a plan.
Once you’ve set or re-set your martial arts goals, the next step is to create a plan. When you set a goal but lack a strategy for accomplishing your goal, your odds for success aren’t all that good. But when you take some time to outline the steps you’ll take to reach your goal, then your chances for success significantly improve. As you lay out the details of your plan, be specific. Include the days of the week that you’ll train, what those classes or training sessions will include, etc.
2. Plan for setbacks.
Planning for setbacks sounds negative, but being realistic about how you will carry out your plan will help you reach your goals. Even with the perfect plan, something could still happen at some point that’s beyond your control. An obstacle that causes you to miss training and experience a setback. If you prepare to face barriers, then you’re more likely to get back on track as soon as possible.
3. Keep track of your progress.
It’s helpful not only to write down your goals someplace where you’ll see and remember them regularly, but it’s also a good idea to keep track of your progress. Keep a training log where you can log your weekly training. You decide what information or data you want to keep track of. But try to include the details that allow you to measure your progress toward your martial arts goals. Creating this training log or journal helps you to see how much work you’ve done. If you ever reach a point where you question your progress, you can see where you were and how far you’ve come.
