Training-Martial-Arts-at-Home-Classic-Fight-TeamWorking out and training at home is always an option. While it can be hard to motivate yourself or figure out what kind of workout or training session to do, there are so many benefits of keeping up your training at home.

Here are four tips for training martial arts in your home:

1. Make sure you give yourself plenty of space.

First thing’s first. Before you begin training, make sure your home is ready. Clear plenty of space to move around in comfortably. And remove hazards like lamps, sharp-cornered coffee tables, dog toys, random cords, etc. If you find yourself saying, “There’s no way I could knock that off the table.” it’s probably a good idea to move it to a safer place.

2. Work on your weaknesses.

Participating in group classes where you can practice with a variety of partners is one way to improve your skills. Training at home gives you a chance to hone in on your weaknesses and spend some quality time addressing specific areas. It’s tempting to stick to training what we’re good at, especially when you’re on your own. But now is a good time to focus on skills or techniques that could use some extra work. Go back to your foundational skills and build up from there.

3. Participate in online classes.

There are a variety of online classes available through both websites and apps. While online training may not be the preferred method for learning martial arts, it can be a good way to keep your practice going when you don’t have access to your regular school or academy. Ask your instructors for recommendations for resources or see if they offer any online training options themselves.

4. Use this opportunity to improve your fitness.

In addition to your martial arts training, you can use your time at home to improve your fitness. You can get in an effective workout using just your bodyweight or minimal equipment. You can also focus on specific elements of fitness, like doing some extra training to increase endurance or flexibility. Try an at home yoga class or go for a run in your neighborhood.
